Cucumbers look like fresh with a candle reviews

Fresh cucumbers for the winter

We all know more than one or two recipes for salads, pickling and pickling of fresh vegetables, so that even in the cold, when the season has passed, we can enjoy them. Fresh cucumbers for the winter are not just a great way to decorate the New Year's table, but also an opportunity to once again experience the juicy bouquet of summer flavors and aromas. "This is impossible!" - you say, but in our article we will offer you methods that you will definitely want to try, and you will see for yourself the effectiveness!

So, first, let's look at the most unusual, but also the fastest option for preserving fresh cucumbers for the winter.

How to pickle crispy cucumbers for the winter: the hot method

The method described above applies to cold ones, because chilled cucumbers are filled with cold water. To give the fruits a pleasant crunch, you can also try the hot method of pickling cucumbers for the winter. It has its undeniable advantages:

  1. Salt, sugar and other spices dissolve much faster in hot water.
  2. Spices penetrate the fruit better.
  3. The leaves of cherries, currants and other berries that are used in the recipe release their substances into the solution better (the process is similar to brewing tea). Among their components, tannins are especially valuable - they give cucumbers the desired crunchy taste.

To prepare pickles in jars for the winter according to this recipe you will need:

Ingredients for a 3 liter jar:

  • 1 kg of cucumbers;
  • 1 liter of water;
  • salt and sugar - 1 large heaped tablespoon each;
  • vinegar 70% - 1 dessert spoon (or 3 tablespoons of regular 9% vinegar);
  • garlic – 3-4 cloves;
  • dill – several sprigs, 2-3 umbrellas;
  • 10-15 peppercorns;
  • 3-4 leaves of currant, cherry, raspberry.

How to hot pickle cucumbers

Step 1. Pre-soak the cucumbers in cool water, but leave them on the table so that they reach room temperature. In the meantime, sterilize the jars (10-15 minutes over steam over boiling water or 3-4 minutes in the microwave).

Step 2. Meanwhile, prepare the brine: you need to bring 1 liter of water to a boil (it’s better to stand it first), then add salt, sugar, dill leaves and berries, as well as pepper (10-15 peas). You can also add a few bay leaves there.

Step 3. Place the cucumbers in a jar and fill them with hot brine to the top, let them cool for 1 hour and add vinegar. Then we cover the jars with lids (loosely) or gauze and put them in a dark (but not cold) place overnight.

Step 4. After a day, roll up the jars or simply close them with tight lids. Place the cucumbers in jars in the refrigerator.

They need to be shaken periodically - especially at the very beginning. After all, salt and other spices must be properly distributed throughout the entire volume.

Crispy pickles in jars - an excellent preparation for the winter

Option 1: preservation

Take 500-600 g of fresh young cucumbers and one 3-liter jar and lid. We select exactly as many fruits as will fit so that there is still free space at the hangers and in the center.

It is better to take pickled cucumbers, since summer varieties are stored worse.

  • We wash the vegetables well and place them on a towel to dry. Unlike traditional pickling, you cannot soak them in this type of preservation. Cucumbers must be completely dry so as not to release condensation, which will interfere with long-term storage.
  • If the vegetables are completely clean, it is better to simply wipe them, removing any sharp bumps.
  • We also wash the jar with the lid and wipe it with a clean towel. Let it breathe until the moisture evaporates completely.
  • Now put dry cucumbers inside.
  • Leave a small space in the middle and place a paraffin candle there. It should be the most ordinary one without fragrances or “improvements” in the composition. A tablet candle will also work, the main thing is that it must be new so that the burning time is at least 11-12 minutes.
  • Light it and let it burn inside the jar for 10 minutes. It is important that the flame is inside and not outside - this way it will burn out all the oxygen.

After a while, without extinguishing the candle, close the jar with a lid and roll it up. The fire will burn for a few more seconds, burning out the remaining oxygen, and then go out. All! The jar of cucumbers can be safely put away in the basement or cellar.

In winter, we will be pleased with fresh crispy cucumbers without pickling or marinade!

Cucumbers with a candle (an old recipe)

A 3-liter jar is sterilized for 20 minutes. An ordinary wax candle is placed in this jar and cucumbers are placed. Cucumbers should only be from the garden; they do not need to be washed, but only wiped with a dry cloth. When the jar is full, light the candle for 10 minutes. Then they simmer it and seal the jar with an iron lid. Using this method of canning, you can have fresh cucumbers on your table all winter.

Why write something like this! If you can try it, of course, but it takes time and food, and in such difficult times you feel sorry for even a candle!

Option 2: salad

Here is another – less exotic, but no less “working” option.

  • Take 1 kg of fresh young cucumbers, wash them well, dry them and cut them into circles.
  • We fold them, the tighter the better, you can even compact them into jars.
  • Place 100 ml of 9% table vinegar on the fire in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Let it cool to room temperature under the lid and pour in our cucumbers.
  • We also boil 100 ml of vegetable oil for frying and, as soon as it cools, pour it over the vinegar into the cucumbers.

Cover with a nylon lid and store in the refrigerator. Essentially, we get a ready-made salad that is well suited for both fish and meat hot dishes.

I will definitely try this recipe. If he survives, it will be just great.

Yes, the recipe is original, of course) I’ve never heard of this, okay, it’s frozen, but it’s just stored in a vacuum all winter - that’s cool. “very similar”, but what exactly is different?

Since they have been sitting in a jar for the whole winter, you still need to get used to this method; it may not work out right away, it is important that air does not get into the jar. Try making one jar first to check.

Firstly, illiteracy and stupidity, coupled with laziness, have reached parasitic levels among many people! Well, you have to think of this and write it instead of “CANDLE” - “CANDLES” (stupid people have stupid principles - do not write the letter “e”, for example. Hence the “thought” process suggests its own rules for writing). And secondly, cucumbers are not preserved this way. They rot. The year before last, 18 liters completely rotted!

Good afternoon First of all, fun recipe! This is how berries are sometimes prepared for the winter. Secondly, Pavel is also not hindered from learning literacy: amazing is written with “o” (amazing from the verb to amaze, i.e. to strike, surprise, and PO is a prefix), laziness is written with one “n” (the suffix -ost-serves for the formation of nouns with the meaning of an abstract attribute, a property called a generating adjective and action on a verb: readiness - from “ready”, jealousy - “jealous”). I’m not writing this for “cleverness,” but for the sake of fairness: anyone can make mistakes. You, Pavel, also make mistakes. I can do them too. Don’t judge others, but explain, make the world a cleaner and kinder place. There is enough anger and stupidity, we need to sow goodness and love. For the author of the article “explainer” - CANDLE - spelling of endings after hissing ones: if the ending is stressed, then the letter “O” is written - candle, doctorOm, cloakOm, knifeOm. Good luck to everyone, peace, love!

The cucumbers do not keep, after a week water appeared in all the jars (15 pcs.), the cucumbers began to look like they had been soaked, with a disgusting smell and taste. Stored in the basement T=+ 5 degrees.

I read the comments and was simply shocked. Yes, it’s immediately clear that Pavel has a mental chamber, 18 liters at once, and with literacy, there are no words. Last year I tried 1 two-liter jar, put cucumbers on the sides, in one layer, in the middle of a large candle and it burned longer until I reached the cucumbers. With a candle burning, I sealed the jar and stored it in the refrigerator. I had it until the new year. I came here to look at the recipe, I’m going to make one jar this year. I didn’t really like the taste, but I need it to decorate dishes. So if anyone wants to try it, try one jar, there won’t be much damage, and you won’t have to be indignant. They probably did something wrong.

The 21st century is here, vacuum bags, vacuum lids, vacuum containers, not burning candles in jars.

Today I made one 3L jar for testing.....I put it in the refrigerator..After two hours I opened it to look - and there was condensation in the jar! They probably won’t save...I’ll keep looking..

Sterilize jars for 20 minutes. Place a wax candle in a jar and add cucumbers.

Option 3: freezing

There are several ways to freeze cucumbers.

Method I

  1. We choose young vegetables of any variety, but it is better if they are from the garden and not purchased. We wash them and, without soaking, cut them into circles.
  2. We cover baking sheets or boxes with cling film, lay out the cucumber slices and put them in the freezer. After 2-3 hours, check if they are frozen, remove them from the film and put them in plastic bags.

We will store these cucumbers in the freezer for the winter until the next harvest. After defrosting, they perfectly retain both taste and aroma!

Method II

  1. We choose young cucumbers, but you shouldn’t take too small ones, they will be difficult to peel. We peel the vegetables, as usual, raw carrots or potatoes and cut them into small cubes.

We lay them out on a clean towel so that excess moisture is removed and they do not freeze, and then we pack 250 - 300 g in bags or cling film. Put it in the freezer.

Such cucumbers must be defrosted in cold liquid, otherwise they will turn into mush. Just imagine what a great addition to winter okroshka these cucumbers will be after defrosting!

Freezing

Along with other vegetables, cucumbers can also be frozen; this is considered the most effective method of preparation.

In this form, the fruits will have the taste, aroma and beneficial composition of a fresh vegetable . Unfortunately, they just won’t crunch, but frozen cucumbers are simply irreplaceable in winter salads and okroshka.

Freezing is done from whole, unspoiled fruits. Wash them thoroughly and cut off the butts. If the cucumbers are bitter, then soak them in cold water for several hours. Then we cut it as we plan to add it to the finished dish:

  • cubes;
  • rings;
  • half rings;
  • cubes.

Place the chopped cucumbers in one layer on a plate or tray and place in the freezer for 1 hour. To prevent vegetables from losing moisture, cover them with cling film.

After the specified time, we take out the cucumbers, pack them in special bags in small portions, seal them tightly and return them to the freezer for storage. Cucumbers in this form are stored for quite a long time and will last until the New Year and beyond.

To get the most out of a frozen product, you need to defrost it properly. To do this, it is better to transfer a portion of cucumbers to the refrigerator for 3 hours. After the specified time has passed, place the cucumbers on the kitchen table.

Option 4: in salt

We wash freshly picked cucumbers, let them dry well and cut them into slices.

Wash and wipe a liter jar with a towel. Let it breathe so that the moisture completely evaporates and pour a thin layer of coarse salt on the bottom. Place a layer of chopped cucumbers on top. Add salt again and add cucumbers again.

The last, top layer should also be salt.

We close the jar with a nylon lid and put it in the basement or cold cellar.

Before use, such cucumbers for the winter should be soaked in filtered water for 20-30 minutes.

As you can see, there are a lot of ways to preserve fresh cucumbers for the winter, and you have plenty to choose from! Try it friends, and you will surely be able to please your family, friends and guests with juicy crispy cucumbers in the middle of winter!

After a while, without extinguishing the candle, close the jar with a lid and roll it up. The fire will burn for a few more seconds, burning out the remaining oxygen, and then go out. All! The jar of cucumbers can be safely put away in the basement or cellar.

How to keep cucumbers fresh all winter

Juicy and aromatic cucumbers, collected from your own garden or bought in the summer season, are considered the most delicious and healthy. Literally every housewife dreams of keeping them fresh, because in the winter, not so tasty specimens go on sale, which even when fresh do not have the taste and aroma inherent in summer cucumbers.

The average shelf life of fresh cucumbers is about a week in the refrigerator. After this, the moisture from them begins to evaporate more actively, the skin wrinkles, and the core becomes soft and tasteless. In addition, the chemical composition of such vegetables almost completely changes, the nutritional value decreases and the appearance deteriorates. However, there are several interesting ways to keep cucumbers fresh and crispy, just like from the garden, until the New Year!

How to choose cucumbers for long-term storage

In order to store cucumbers almost all winter without losing vitamins and taste, it is important to choose the right variety of these vegetables. Thus, salad varieties spoil very quickly even in ideal storage conditions. That is why it is worth taking pickled types of cucumbers, which are stored fresh longer. The following varieties and hybrids are ideal for this:

  • Muromsky;
  • Nezhinsky;
  • Vyaznikovsky;
  • Debut;
  • Pickling;
  • Parisian gherkin;
  • Green Wave;
  • Competitor;
  • Goosebumps.

Externally, these cucumbers look attractive because they are small in size (up to 8 cm in length), smooth surface and even in color. Even without reliably knowing the variety of cucumbers, you can determine that they are pickled. As a rule, such vegetables have the following characteristics:

  • dense pulp with small seed chambers;
  • the skin is shiny, covered with numerous large tubercles;
  • The spines on pickled cucumbers are always black or dark, but not white.

A significant advantage of pickling cucumbers is their resistance to damage. Even in the refrigerator, they retain their elasticity and taste longer than universal or salad ones.

Fresh cucumbers before winter: recipe (video)

Method number 1: in banks

To keep cucumbers fresh, you need to place them in a complete vacuum. Despite the apparent complexity, doing this at home is quite simple.

  • The first and most important condition is to choose strong small cucumbers without the slightest sign of damage.
  • The fruits are thoroughly washed in cool water. It is important not to keep them in it for too long!
  • It is not recommended to wipe cucumbers: this can damage their skin.
  • The fruits are laid out on a well-absorbent cloth and left for about an hour.
  • Next, the cucumbers are placed in large jars. It is necessary to leave free space in the container by about a quarter of its height. There is no need to pack the fruits tightly so as not to cause damage.
  • Insert a short paraffin candle into the middle of the container between the cucumbers (you can use small decorative candles in a metal base without scent!) and light it for 8-10 minutes. At this time, prepare a sterile metal cap for sealing, which must be dry.
  • After the specified time, the oxygen in the jar will burn out. At this time, you need to carefully roll up the lid so as not to extinguish the candle. Continuing to burn, the candle will consume all the oxygen in the container with cucumbers, after which it will go out.

This method allows you to store cucumbers fresh until spring in room conditions. It is only important to prevent light from entering the jars with fruits.

Method number 2: in a barrel (original old recipe)

This method allows you to prepare fresh cucumbers without adding spices or brines. It was practiced by our ancestors, and is sometimes still found in villages. To keep cucumbers fresh using this method, you will need a previously scalded and dried wooden tub. Horseradish leaves are placed at the bottom (they interfere with fermentation processes).

Cucumbers are placed vertically in a barrel, tails down. The fruits must be packed very tightly so that there are no gaps between them. When the barrel is full, cover the top of the cucumbers with another layer of horseradish leaves. Then the barrel is sealed with a wooden circle-lid and placed in a reservoir, at the bottom of which there are cold springs.

The nutritional value of such cucumbers, as well as their taste, remains until the New Year. Even in spring they remain crispy, juicy and aromatic. And all thanks to the fact that at the bottom of reservoirs the temperature is constantly kept at about +4-6 degrees, and there is a complete absence of light and air access.

Method number 3: in the ice cellar

This method resembles the previous one in the technique of keeping cucumbers fresh. The only difference is that the barrel filled with fruits is filled to the brim with spring water (not tap water!). After this, the tightly closed container is placed in a cellar in which a glacier is equipped.

Method number 4: in a head of cabbage

To preserve cucumbers for a long time using this method, you need to start preparing at the beginning of summer. To do this, several cabbage bushes are planted next to the cucumber bed. At the moment when the heads of cabbage begin to wrap, a cucumber is stolen into their center without disconnecting it from the vine. The essence of this method is that the cabbage leaves will tightly envelop the still growing cucumber fruit, blocking access to air and light. After the onset of cold weather, the head of cabbage is carefully dug up along with a lump of earth and placed in the basement with the roots facing up.

The advantage of this method is the complete absence of time spent on preparing dishes and processing vegetables. The disadvantage is the likelihood of rotting of the head of cabbage and the cucumber in it, as well as a small amount of fruits kept fresh.

Method number 5: in a protein shell

The essence of this method is to create an airtight film of egg whites on the surface of the cucumber, so that it does not lose its qualities a little longer than without such treatment.

Selected cucumbers must be absolutely healthy, fresh and smooth, with the “tail” preserved. They are thoroughly cleaned of contaminants, dried and coated with chicken egg white. The shell must completely cover the fruit and dry completely before storing.

It is better to keep such cucumbers in a cool and dark place, transferring the greens with wax paper. The maximum shelf life is about 60 days.

Cucumbers with candles

I haven’t tried preparing cucumbers using this recipe yet, but I tried to eat them, they are very similar to fresh cucumbers. This method of canning will allow you to eat fresh cucumbers all winter.

Preparing for the winter with candles

I’ve never rolled it before, I decided to write a little more about rolling it up with candles

You need to choose fruits that are strong and without the slightest spoilage - cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, peaches, apricots. Wash and let the water drain. The fruits must be thoroughly dry. Then we put them in a clean, sterilized jar - carefully, without filling it to the top. Now you need a candle, place it in the jar and light it. The most important and difficult thing is to seal the jar so that the candle does not go out. It should burn with the lid closed. The candle will go out on its own when all the oxygen in the jar has burned out. Store in a cool place.

You can’t put a candle like that, the jar will burst - checked

How long to store cucumbers in the refrigerator

When trying to store cucumbers in the refrigerator, many housewives make the mistake of placing them on a shelf with too low temperatures, which speeds up their spoilage. To avoid this, it is better to put the greens in the warmest section, where the temperature ranges from +4 to +6 degrees. In such conditions they can remain fresh for about 3 weeks.

To reduce the risk of spoilage of cucumbers, you need to place them in jars or clay pots, and also remove other vegetables and fruits that can emit methane (apples, bananas, pears). They are the ones who most often cause damage to their neighbors on the shelf. Garlic will help protect greens from spoilage. You can put several of its cloves in one container with cucumbers.

How to choose vegetables to store until spring heat

To ensure that the pulp remains dense, crispy, and there is no loss of vitamins and taste, appropriate varieties are selected for long-term storage. Salad representatives of the vegetable crop do not have a similar characteristic: they quickly deteriorate even in specially equipped vegetable storage facilities. For long-term storage, preference is given to universal varieties or preparations intended for commercial production. Among pickling cucumbers there are both hybrids and varietal representatives. More popular:

  • "Muromsky";
  • "Nezhinsky";
  • "Vyaznikovsky 37";
  • "F1 debut";
  • "Salting";
  • "Parisian gherkin";
  • "Green Wave F1";
  • "Competitor";
  • "Goosebumps F1".

Zelentsy have high commercial qualities. An attractive appearance is ensured by its short length (8-10 cm), smooth surface and even color. There are a number of characteristics that allow you to visually determine the pickling purpose of a cucumber:

  1. Elastic pulp with small seed chambers.
  2. Glossy peel, covered with numerous, clearly visible tubercles.
  3. Dark or black spikes (not white).

The advantage of pickling greens over universal ones is their resistance to mechanical damage, which ensures a long shelf life.

Preparatory stage

To ensure long-term storage, the fruits are carefully selected and prepared. There are several requirements that are important to follow in order to prepare cucumbers for the winter:

  1. Freshness – fruits collected from the garden are excellent. It should not take much time from the moment of removal to the workpiece. If the fruits have been at room temperature for several days, they should not be used. When buying at the market, pay attention to the condition of the entire batch of greens; if some of them are “withered,” it is better to save your finances.
  2. Clean and dry - wipe the cucumbers with a dry cloth. They cannot be washed, since the peel is covered with a special protective layer that ensures shelf life.
  3. No damage - the surface is inspected for dents and cuts. Injured specimens are discarded, as they will quickly begin to rot, becoming a source of infection that will quickly spread to healthy cucumbers.

The selected greens should have a dense peel, characteristic of ground-based representatives of the vegetable crop. Fruits of greenhouse varieties are not used. If you mistakenly purchased vegetables that do not meet the requirements, you should not prepare them for storage. The housewife will spend time and effort, but will not be able to achieve the result of long-term fresh storage. It is better to use them for traditional pickling.

Harvesting methods

If the variety is chosen correctly, the fruits are fresh, healthy, dry, you can extend the shelf life not only until the New Year celebrations, but also until spring. Some of the methods go back to the times of Rus', there are also those that were invented by contemporaries. Regardless of which one you choose, it is important to follow the basic guidelines and tips.

With a candle

Placing them in a vacuum allows you to keep cucumbers fresh. It’s easy to do this at home by following these steps:

  1. Take healthy specimens without damage, clean them of dirt and dry them well.
  2. The greens are not placed very tightly in a large jar.
  3. Place a short paraffin candle in the middle of the container between the vegetables and light it for 8-10 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, the metal cap for sealing is sterilized, which should be dry at the right time.
  5. During the specified time, the oxygen in the jar burns out - carefully, so as not to extinguish the candle, roll up the container. (The wick will go out after all the oxygen has been burned.)

To create a vacuum, small decorative candles in a metal base are also used. The main condition is the absence of aroma.

In a barrel

A technique that rural residents often resort to to harvest a large fresh harvest. A low and constant temperature within 4 °C, as well as the absence of the possibility of light or air entering the container, allows the pulp to be kept dense and crispy. Main stages:

  1. The container is pre-prepared, scalded and dried.
  2. Horseradish leaves are placed at the bottom to prevent fermentation.
  3. The fruits are tightly placed in a barrel in a vertical manner, with the stalks down. (There should be no gaps).
  4. When the container is filled to the top, the greens are covered with a second layer of horseradish leaves.
  5. The container is “sealed” with a wooden circle-lid and lowered into a reservoir where underwater springs emerge.

In the glacier cellar

The method for preserving fruits is similar to the previous one. The differences are that the barrel is filled completely, and then the greens are filled with cold spring water. You cannot use tap water because it contains chlorine and heavy metals. Afterwards, the container is tightly closed and sent to a deep basement, where glacier conditions are created, allowing the cucumbers to be kept fresh for a long time.

In a head of cabbage

To implement the technique, cabbage plantings are placed next to the cucumber plantings. At the moment when the heads of cabbage begin to form, place a fruit in the center without disconnecting the latter from the central shoot. As a result, the cabbage leaves will tightly wrap the still filling greens, blocking access to air and light. After the cabbage reaches technical ripeness, the head of cabbage is carefully dug up along with a lump of earth and sent to the basement with the roots facing up. The disadvantage of this technique is that you won’t be able to save much of the cucumbers, and the greens may begin to rot along with the cabbage.

In a protein shell

Reception does not guarantee a very long shelf life - a maximum of 2 months. To perform it, leveled, healthy specimens, previously cleaned and dried, are carefully coated with an egg white shell. The latter allows you to preserve the cucumber qualities. For the result to be successful, the fruits are taken with stalks. After processing, they are dried, placed in the basement, covered with wax paper.

Method No. 1

fresh cucumbers in a jar

If you want to test a successful recipe , here's a great option. In my opinion, this is the best way to keep vegetables fresh for the winter. By the way, you can also preserve tomatoes, plums, peaches, apricots and apples with this recipe. We decided to show you how this is done using cucumbers as an example. Be sure to choose strong fruits without spoilage.

  1. Wash the cucumbers. Most recipes call for soaking them, but not in this case. Just leave them to dry on a towel. You don’t have to wash them, but simply wipe them with a dry cloth. Then condensation will not collect in the jar. And you can wash the cucumbers later, when you open the jar in winter. This way cucumbers are better preserved.
  2. Place the cucumbers in a clean, sterilized jar . The container must be dry. Don't stuff it too full.
  3. Take any candle (except scented). We recommend using paraffin, as it burns better. Place the candle in the jar on top of the vegetables. Set it on fire.
  4. Leave the candle to burn in the jar for 10 minutes without a lid. During this time, the oxygen in the bottom of the can will burn out and rise to the top.
  5. Now you need to seal the jar so that the candle does not go out . Close the jar with a lid and roll up. The candle must continue to burn. When all the oxygen in the jar has burned out, the candle will go out on its own (in about 30 seconds).

Jars of cucumbers should be stored in a cool place. The vegetables taste like freshly picked ones. This twist is stored all winter. But believe me, you will eat everything much faster.

How to store such cucumbers

Storage conditions for harvested fruits depend on the method. For example, when using the candle technique, the fruits will remain fresh in jars until spring, even at room temperature and access to light. Since ancient times, cucumbers have been preserved in barrels by immersion in a body of water where cold springs flow. Sand will also come to the rescue during the harvesting process. Vegetables are placed in layers of clay containers. They are sprinkled with well-washed dried sand. Close the lid tightly and store in a cool room.

If you have a large freezer, the freezing method is often used. Although they become a little soft after defrosting, the nutritional value of the vegetables is retained.

To maintain the freshness of fruits, they should not be packaged in cellophane without air access, which is a common mistake. Without oxygen, greens will simply “suffocate,” even if they are in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. Also, the storage period is shortened by proximity to ripe fruits that emit ethylene (apples, tomatoes). This happens due to the effect of the substance on the biochemical processes in vegetable crops.

Any greenhouse vegetables are inferior in quality to seasonal ones from the garden. And when using one of the methods, it will not be difficult to serve fresh and aromatic cucumbers to the table in winter.

Zelentsy have high commercial qualities. An attractive appearance is ensured by its short length (8-10 cm), smooth surface and even color. There are a number of characteristics that allow you to visually determine the pickling purpose of a cucumber:

Fresh Cucumbers for the Winter in a Jar with a Candle Reviews

Cucumbers “with a candle”

3-liter jar, candle, cucumbers.

A 3-liter jar is sterilized for 20 minutes. Place a wax candle in it and place cucumbers in it. Cucumbers should only come from the garden. Under no circumstances should they be washed, just wipe with a dry cloth. When the jar is filled, light the candle for 10 minutes. As soon as the candle burns out, the jar is closed with an iron lid. You will have fresh cucumbers all winter.

Freshly picked cucumbers are soaked in cold water for 2–3 hours, and leftover ones for 6–8 hours.

Prepare the brine: for 5 liters of water - 1 glass of salt, 10 black peppercorns, bay leaf. Boil and pour into jars of cucumbers through cheesecloth.

Place 4-5 pieces of horseradish, 2-3 chopped garlic cloves, 2-3 fresh dill umbrellas at the bottom of the jar.
