Shelf life of base and top after opening

Shelf life of gel polish

The manufacturer prescribes the shelf life of a particular gel polish on a Russified label accompanying the bottle. It is determined individually for each brand, depending, among other things, on the textural features of a particular series (gel polish effect).

Most formulations are designed for full use throughout the year.

However, there are also coatings that retain their properties for 2-3 years.

The typical average shelf life of high-quality shellac is 3 years. You can determine the lifespan of a coating without a label by the corresponding marks on the packaging (the pictogram is an open jar with a numerical designation of the shelf life in months).

It is worth remembering that sealed and open formulations are stored differently. Therefore, for most gel polishes, manufacturers indicate an expiration date after opening. After this period has passed, gel polish does not become dangerous.

However, it may thicken or lumps may appear in it, and the brush may deteriorate due to the changed properties of the gel polish. In order for shellac to serve you for a long time without losing its properties, it must be stored correctly. Well, if by chance it is not the composition itself that is damaged, but the brush, do not rush to throw away the product, since the brush can also be revived.

CND - 3 years Diamant - 3 years Entity - 3 years Gelish - 3 years (18 months after opening the bottle) Ibd - 3 years Irisk - 3 years Kodi - 3 years Masura - 3 years Tnl - 3 years Buy gel polishes Discounts on gel -varnishes Gel polish is very economical to use. With proper manicure, there is often no need to renew the coating; once every 2-3 weeks is enough.

Thanks to this, the gel polish is consumed very slowly and can serve you for about a year. Therefore, you simply need to know how to store gel polish, in what conditions, so that it retains its original properties.

At what temperature should gel polish be stored? High temperatures have a detrimental effect on the quality of gel polish. If the temperature regime is violated, the shelf life is reduced.

Shelf life of gel polishes

The manufacturer always places information on how long the product can be stored on the packaging. There is a version that there is one time period before opening, and a completely different time after the bottle is opened. You shouldn’t hope too much that no one has ever opened the varnish you bought: store consultants do coloring, show clients the consistency, and give them the opportunity to evaluate the smell.

When applying gel polishes, it is recommended to keep the open bottle away from the UV lamp while the coating on the nails is polymerizing.

Gel polish should not be shaken before use, like regular polish, to avoid the formation of a large number of air bubbles. They will settle on the nails for a long time. It is enough to roll the bottle in your palms a little.

Signs of unsuitability: change in color, delamination, thickening or thinning of texture, change in characteristic odor.

Gel polish remover, primer, cleanser, dehydrator

These substances are flammable and should be stored in well-ventilated areas with a temperature not exceeding 34°C. They contain alcohols, acetone, fragrances, and acids. Sometimes clinser and primer vapors can ignite at 17°C, so bottles should be kept tightly closed.

At the first signs of separation of the composition of cosmetics, a change in color or the appearance of an unusual odor, even before the expiration date, the cosmetics must be disposed of. SanPiN standards do not have strict requirements for the disposal of the entire list of cosmetics, so chemicals are disposed of like other chemical compounds, plastic is sorted into plastic, and everything that can be organically recycled must be sorted separately.

How to store manicure polishes and gel polishes

Contents: According to the great Coco Chanel, a girl’s hands are her calling card.

The temperature should be room temperature, not higher than 26 degrees C.

Hence, the desire of many ladies to always look beautiful begins with a manicure. Hand care procedures can be carried out both in the salon and at home. Those girls who do manicures at home have in their arsenal a sufficient number of bottles with varnishes of various colors.

But not everyone knows how to properly store varnishes and extend their service life. Usually, varnish manufacturers indicate the expiration date on the packaging, and such bottles also have Russian text, which contains detailed instructions for use.

The average shelf life of shellac is 2-3 years. More often you can find an expiration date on varnishes after opening the bottle, this will allow for use.

  • Entity - 3 years;
  • Diamant - 3 years;
  • Bluesky - 3 years;
  • Masura - 3 years;
  • Kodi - 3 years;
  • IBD - 3 years;
  • CND - 3 years;
  • Gelish - 3 years (18 months after opening the bottle);
  • Irisk - 3 years;
  • Tnl - 3 years.

Regardless of the number of colors and manufacturers of varnishes, all of them will last longer under proper storage conditions.

There are a number of rules, following which your favorite colors will delight you much longer.

  • Place. It is recommended to store bottles in a dark and cool place, avoid direct sunlight. Many people make the mistake of storing polishes in the refrigerator. At low temperatures, condensation may form, which will lead to loss of properties.
  • Shake the bottle. Previously, when producing varnishes, a special metal ball was added to the bottle, which allowed the contents to be mixed before each use.
  • Sealing of the bottle. Each time after use, the varnish lid should be tightly closed, otherwise air will penetrate into the resulting hole, which will lead to overdrying and the formation of a light crust on the surface. In this case, the consistency will become thick, and lumps may appear during application.

How to distinguish spoiled gel polish

Even if you follow the manufacturer's instructions, long-term storage of gel polishes leads to a change in their texture. This affects the adhesive characteristics of the composition, its wear resistance and aesthetic characteristics.

After the expiration date, gel polish may change color and acquire an unusual odor. If this occurs before the time specified by the manufacturer, the composition should be discarded.

It is almost impossible to achieve a uniform coating with expired varnish. It becomes too thick and lies on the surface in stripes. The presence of dense lumps on the bristles of the brush also indicates the low quality of the decorative product. The condition of the pile itself is also important: if it is worn out, it will not be possible to create an ideal coating with its help.

If the shelf life of the gel polish has already expired after opening the bottle, and storage standards have been violated, its further use is a big risk. Chemical processes occurring inside an expired composition can completely change its formula. This can cause severe allergic reactions.

You need to get your manicure done by a trusted professional. And before the procedure, always check the quality of the composition, following a few simple rules. If you do your own manicure, then this article on how to store gel polishes will be useful to you.

Gel polishes - temperature, storage conditions and rules

Gel polishes have become popular due to their beautiful rich colors, durability, and economy.

A correctly done manicure does not crack and always looks like it just came from the salon. This is also an economical manicure option - you need to renew it once every 2 weeks.

The listed properties depend directly on the quality, the method of storage, and careful use. This nail coating absolutely cannot withstand heat, cold, or sunlight. The glass bottle is painted black or enamel to protect the contents from ultraviolet radiation. Requirements for proper storage:

  1. Do not keep in the refrigerator, in the sun, on an open surface (table, chest of drawers, windowsill). This negatively affects the consistency of the contents.
  2. Do not place the bottle near a microwave oven. It emits waves that can thicken the product.
  3. The ideal air temperature is 25-26 degrees.

The best place to store enamels is a desk drawer, box, cosmetic bag.

That's why professional craftsmen have a special case for bottles and accessories. Usually a new product in sealed packaging is good for use for 24 months. If the product has been used, the shelf life is significantly reduced.

It is important to ensure that the cap is always tightly closed and the bottle is in a vertical position. To prevent your favorite enamel from losing its properties, do the following:

  1. Once every couple of months, “stir” the contents of the bottle. Roll it over in your hands. But under no circumstances shake or shake.
  2. If the coating does thicken, it is strictly not recommended to add acetone or alcohol. This will cause the product to separate. It's better to add a small amount of top. But this will lead to a slight change in tone and make the texture liquid.
  3. Each time after use, wipe the neck well with a dry cloth or piece of cloth. Screw the cap on tightly.

Make sure that no air gets inside.

Bubbles disrupt the integrity of the coating during application.

How to store it correctly?

Gel polishes are incredibly sensitive to storage conditions .

Even a small light catalyst can cause a polymerization process, which will lead to a violation of the original properties of the cosmetic product.

Therefore, in order for the nail coating to perform the tasks assigned to it, the following rules must be followed:

  1. Place. Gel polishes are stored only in dark places well protected from light, even if the bottle seems lightproof at first glance - in cabinets with closing doors, pull-out desk drawers, special organizers. Do not leave them near working ultraviolet or LED lamps.
  2. Temperature. Violation of the temperature regime has a detrimental effect on the quality of the product. The temperature should be room temperature, not higher than 26 °C. In case of violations, life .
  3. Bottle. After using the product, close the container tightly and wipe its neck with a lint-free cloth.
  4. Stirring. The coated bottle cannot be shaken, as is done with traditional varnishes. Then air bubbles form in the product, which are sometimes impossible to get rid of. To restore the uniformity of the fraction, a few smooth rotational movements from side to side are enough.
  5. All gel polishes, no matter how many of them have accumulated in the collection and how often they are used, need to be scrolled at least once a week, as described above, without allowing them to stagnate.

It happens that gel polish causes allergies .

This occurs due to the contact of the product with the skin and nail plate, which is porous and allows substances to enter the body .

Then dermatitis occurs, swelling of the ridges - subungual and lateral, redness of the skin up to cyanosis, painful blisters.

If the material is not removed in a timely manner, the nail bed may die.

As a rule, allergies are caused by a sticky layer .

There is always the possibility that an expired product may have increased side effects.

50+ questions and answers about gel polishes from professionals

We are often asked questions about gel polishes: what they are, how to apply them, what to combine them with.

Every week we publish articles and master classes related to the correct use of these coatings, but the flow of questions about them does not subside.

Therefore, we decided to put them all together and conduct a big educational program. So, 50+ questions about gel polishes. is a liquid gel with unique properties.

It is applied to nails like a regular polish, but dried in special lamps under UV or LED rays, like a gel. It is very durable and great for girls who want to maintain a perfect glossy manicure for 2-3 weeks, including on vacation. dries naturally in air, and gel polish - only under UV and LED rays (from 30 seconds to 2 minutes) in special ones and hardens immediately.

That is, after drying, you can immediately go about your business without fear that the coating will “smudge,” as usually happens with varnish. In addition, gel polish is much more durable, stays on the nails for up to 3 weeks and is much more “glossy”. Briefly the chronological scheme is as follows:

  1. nails (we remove all dirt and sebum from the nail with a special product),
  2. remove the natural gloss from nails using a soft,
  3. apply (do not dry it!),
  4. then apply 2-3 layers of color (the number of layers depends on the density of the gel polish and the desired effect) - dry each layer in a lamp.
  5. dehydrate using (remove excess moisture from the nail with a special product),
  6. brush off the remaining sawdust with a hard brush,

Advice from the experts. How to avoid delays?

Professionals with a large flow of clients can afford huge palettes of 300-500 colors. But masters of their craft assure that this does not always make sense. Firstly, the client is often lost with such a huge choice, and secondly, delays cannot be avoided. You should not try to purchase nail polishes of every conceivable shade, it may not be worth it. There is especially no point in such a huge assortment for those who consider manicure their hobby and not their main activity. A few dozen are enough, not a few hundred.

Experts advise you to be scrupulous about storage rules and carefully inspect the product before purchasing. This will minimize delays and fully utilize the potential of the product.

What is the shelf life of gel polish after opening the bottle?

When buying gel polish, we look at what clothes and accessories it goes with, select it for the occasion and place, and ask how much it costs.

It is also worth paying attention to the volume of the bottle.

Having decided on the color and brand, don’t be too lazy to dive deep into the depths and look for the freshest bottle.

What is the shelf life of gel polishes before and after opening, is there any? Let's take a closer look. The shelf life of gel polish is usually 3 years. During this time, it is extremely important to observe storage conditions: hermetically sealed packaging, dark place, room temperature. Stores are required to comply with the conditions, but cannot always keep track of all customers.

Gel polish turquoise color It happens that during the search, someone opened the bottle and did not close it tightly, took it from the shelf, then changed his mind and put it near the heating. Store employees don't always notice right away.

The quality of such coverage drops significantly, although the term has not yet expired. The newer the bottle, the less likely it is that it has been subjected to temperature, light and other influences. In practice, the period of 3 years is somewhat underestimated; with proper use after opening and storage, Bluesky and Cody gel polish retains its properties for at least 1 year after the period has expired.

Often the bottle contains information about the expiration date, but not the release date.

Examine the bottle carefully; the date may be printed directly on the glass. Some manufacturers indicate it on larger packaging, for example, on a box.

Are there any restrictions on the shelf life of gel polish after opening?

Depends on the manufacturer. Bluesky and Cody varnishes do not have this. However, storage conditions must be observed. Some brands have a pictogram in the form of an open package, which indicates how many months the varnish is good for after opening. Like the general period, this value is underestimated if the instructions for use are followed.

Pink gel polish How long gel polish will last largely depends on how careful you use it.

Rules for storing varnish

The shelf life of gel polish after opening will not be shortened if you keep it in the dark. The curing process of this composition occurs exclusively under the influence of ultraviolet radiation. Contact with air does not affect its quality and does not contribute to evaporation. The threat comes from sunlight containing UV radiation. Such exposure is not enough for the process of complete polymerization to occur, but the sun’s rays can affect the structure of the composition and make it thicker.

Most manufacturers produce gel polish in opaque bottles to avoid light shining on the contents.

For maximum protection of your beauty arsenal from light exposure, it is better to use a special closed case, which in turn is sent for storage in a dark place.

The contents of bottles that are stored on a lit windowsill or table will quickly lose quality. Even the process of applying the composition must take place under electric lighting. And the container cannot be kept directly under the lamp.

The storage temperature of gel polish is usually indicated on its packaging. Heating the bottle beyond normal may lead to changes in the structure of its contents. Therefore, you should avoid its proximity to any heat sources.

Can gel polishes be stored in the refrigerator? Given that the storage temperature of the composition is usually indicated at +25C -+26C, it should not be sent into the cold so as not to create sudden temperature changes. The best option is a dark place where a stable room temperature is maintained up to +25C.

Storage rules and signs of unsuitability of manicure and pedicure products

  1. Health, SanPiN
  2. 02/23/2018 To perform manicure and pedicure, the master needs a significant amount of caring and decorative products - varnishes, nail extension systems, creams, serums.
All cosmetic products used in the circulation of a nail salon or by a professional at home have their own rules for storage, use and signs of unsuitability. How not to get lost in a large arsenal of cosmetics for manicure and pedicure, how to properly store and dispose of materials on time? Let's talk about the most popular manicure and pedicure products and the features of their use.

Types of varnishes

Currently, there are a huge number of nail polishes that differ not only in color, but also in shape, durability and purpose.

The most common and widely known are liquid varnishes, which are available in a variety of colors in small glass bottles with a brush included.

Base varnish is a clear liquid designed to protect the nail from darkening and to apply colored varnish more evenly.

Fixer is a colorless varnish applied to a decorative coating to protect it from mechanical damage.

So-called gel polishes have recently become very popular. Their special feature is the combination of traditional nail polish and extension gel. They have many advantages:

  • Easy to apply and remove
  • Rich, vibrant colors
  • Durability in wear

The only difficulty in using gel polishes for home manicure is the need for a UV lamp.

The most common brands of such products are Shellac CND, EzFlow, Bluesky.

How to store gel polishes

Gel polish is one of the most used products in the field of nail service. Under the influence of ultraviolet rays, it hardens and usually stays on the nails for 2-3 weeks, and sometimes longer.

How to properly store gel polishes Gel polish has much more shine than regular nail polish.

If you want to wear gel polish on your nails not for a few days, but much longer, then follow the following useful recommendations, which are described below: 1. Do not cut or file your nails after applying gel polish. 2.Do not pick or cut the coating with sharp objects. 3. You should also avoid picking different hard surfaces with your nails.

4. Remove gel polish only with a special product designed for this purpose, which does not contain acetone. 5. After you have applied gel polish, avoid long contact with water that day, since polymerization occurs during this period.

Shelf life 6. When purchasing gel polish, pay attention to its shelf life.

If there is no expiration date on the package, then it is better not to buy it.

The usual shelf life of gel polish is approximately 2-3 years.

7. Once the package of gel polish is opened, the expiration date depends largely on you, how you handle it and where you store it.

There are now a lot of fakes on sale that cannot be distinguished from original gel polishes.

But the quality will be much worse. Buy in trusted stores, where they won’t sell you a fake.

I offer you a number of factors by which you can determine that the quality of gel polish is suffering.

If the gel polish has a pungent odor, it means it contains a high content of alkalis and acids. If the coating begins to lift along the edges of the nail plate, crack, or peel off after 3-5 days after application, then this indicates poor quality of the gel polish. Cracks and scratches form on the coating, and the shine disappears.

The coating cannot be removed with a solvent, but only through mechanical removal.

How to store gel polishes correctly?

Three people take care that low-quality material does not get on the nails: the manufacturer, the seller and the master himself. What can be done to reduce the risk of damage to varnishes?

Let's look at the main rules for storing gel manicure products.

  1. As is known, the transition of a material from one state of aggregation to another occurs under the influence of ultraviolet or LED radiation. This means that the sun’s rays are also dangerous for such coatings. Complete polymerization may not occur, but a small amount of bright sunlight is enough for the material to begin to thicken. If bottles are stored in a well-lit area, the risk of premature aging increases.
  2. When working with a lamp, for the same reason, contact of light waves and open bottles must be avoided. Remove the bubbles as far as possible from the switched-on lamp, and do not be lazy to tighten the caps.
  3. Do not shake bottles. Gel materials do not like this: during shaking, air bubbles get into the thickness, which are then very difficult to remove. They interfere with work.
  4. Monitor the room temperature. If the room is too hot (above +26 °C), the varnishes should be put away in a cool, shaded place, at least in a closet or desk drawer.
  5. A closed case with opaque walls can be an excellent solution.
  6. If the bottle is damaged, but the material itself can still be saved, pour it only into containers with thick walls that do not allow sunlight to pass through. A bottle of regular nail polish will not work for this purpose! It’s better to purchase a special bottle made of painted glass or thick plastic in the nail art materials department.
  7. Conduct regular audits. Knowing the expiration date of gel polishes from your collection, you can keep track of which materials should be used first.

Shelf life of gel polishes and their storage conditions

Well-groomed hands with a neat manicure are a sign of a woman who loves and values herself. However, varnishes do not stay on the nails for long, despite decorative cosmetics. When it does not correspond to the declared properties, the consumer has the right to return, write, and receive money. To extend the life of the manicure, they were developed special products - gel polishes. Thanks to them, nails look great for a week, or even more. Gel polishes appeared on the market relatively recently, and consumers know very little about them. They are used not only by professionals in beauty salons, but also by women at home conditions who do not have special knowledge. However, this product has limited, can cause and become.

Gel polish is one of the most progressive products in the field of nail service. It is an easily soluble gel that can be applied to nails like varnish. Under the influence of ultraviolet light, it polymerizes, hardens and gives a durable coating that lasts 2 weeks or more. Its shine is much deeper than with regular varnish. It is also much more difficult to scratch it. Fragile nails, as masters and manufacturers promise, become much stronger with it, but only until the product is removed. To remove such varnish, you need a special one. The process of removing the coating itself is quite long and lasts about 20 minutes. Manicure and pedicure specialists warn that the coating will last longer if certain rules are followed:

  • Do not pick at the coating or cut it with sharp objects.
  • On the first day after applying gel polish, you should avoid prolonged contact of nails with water, which occurs during general cleaning and taking water procedures, since the polymerization process continues.
  • Do not pick hard surfaces with your nails.
  • Do not file the free edge or cut your nails.
  • To remove the coating, use a special liquid that does not contain acetone.

You can also use gel polish at home.

Is it possible to use expired material?

What to do if the date indicated on the bottle coincides with the date on the calendar?

We already know that the question of whether gel polishes have an expiration date should be answered in the affirmative. But what happens to the material when the recommended service life has come to an end?

From a chemical point of view, certain processes can begin in the structure that are unlikely to be stopped. But there is a high probability that nothing like this will happen 3 years after the production date. The material can work as before. Here the truth can only be established experimentally.

Test the material, coat the tip with it, dry it, making sure that the required time for polymerization does not increase. Evaluate the result. Has greyness, cloudiness or yellowness appeared? Is there shine? Is the surface hard when pressed? Has the “behavior” of the material changed (for example, has the varnish, which previously applied smoothly, started to “bald” or “strip”)? If you do not notice any changes, feel free to continue using the varnish. Its shelf life has expired, but it itself has not deteriorated.

How to find out the expiration date of gel polish

» » » Gel polish has become one of the most popular means for decorative manicure, despite its relatively recent appearance on the cosmetic market. This is explained by its increased durability compared to conventional ones, as well as, according to manufacturers and nail design artists, the ability of shellac to strengthen the nail plate.

Any cosmetic product has an expiration date and specific storage conditions. Content . This is the period during which the product, subject to storage rules, should be used for its intended purpose.

On the packaging it is indicated either in the number of days, months or years from the date of manufacture, or as an exact date. This period is set for each gel polish.

IMPORTANT: you should distinguish between expiration and storage dates. During the latter period, the product fully retains its consumer properties, and if it runs out, this does not mean that the product cannot be used for its intended purpose.

Manufacturers usually indicate the period of use on the packaging (box), label or bottom of the bottle in the form of an inscription with the number of months counted from the date of manufacture. Additionally, the storage time of the opened container may be indicated (located next to the open jar symbol, it contains the number of months during which the product can be used from the moment of opening).

Most of these products are usable for about 2-3 years if the bottle is not opened and stored properly. After opening the product, the duration of possible use varies from company to company - 12 (Pink Gellac, LeChat), 18 (Gelish, RCM), 24 (ProGel) or 36 (INK) months. Some buyers say that gel polishes can retain their consumer properties even longer if kept in appropriate conditions.

The varnish will last a long time without losing its properties if you keep the bottle in the right conditions: Do not allow the temperature to rise above 25 ° C: otherwise the product will thicken.

Avoid contact

What to look for when purchasing?

In addition to the recommended period, the release date must be printed on the packaging. If you cannot find this information, you should not purchase. There is a high probability that an unscrupulous seller simply erased the numbers with solvent in order to sell a product with an expiring date.

Perhaps the paint peeled off on its own. This is also a reason to be wary. No serious manufacturer will put such important information on bottles of their products with low-quality ink.

Carefully inspect the bottle for chips and other damage. The neck and threads must be clean.

Shelf life of gel polish after opening

Contents Every supermom knows that expired cosmetics are dangerous in terms of skin irritation, rashes, swelling, occasional redness and other negative reactions.

That is why today we determine the expiration date of cosmetics. Special markings on jars and bottles and the following useful information will help us with this... Until 2005, the content of information on cosmetics labeling reflected only the shelf life of cosmetics in sealed conditions, that is, in closed packaging. When air enters an open bottle or any other form of packaging of a cosmetic product, various bacteria enter the contents.

In addition, many microbes are carried by fingers and cosmetic devices such as applicators and sponges. How long the shelf life of cosmetics is in such cases remained an unsolved mystery.

New regulations introduced in the European Union have resolved this problem by obliging manufacturers to indicate all product data, including information about the use of cosmetic products from the beginning of their use.

  1. Next to this special sign there should be the inscription “Period after opening”. Translated, it sounds like this - the designation of the period after the opening. The combination of letters and numbers, using the example of Israeli sea of spa cosmetics, can be deciphered as follows: 12 M - this cosmetic product, after depressurization of the bottle, can be used only for 12 months.
  2. The necessary data must be indicated on products whose shelf life is determined to be 30 months or more.
  3. A special symbol in the form of a bottle with an open lid determines information about the expiration date of opened cosmetics.

Such labeling helps in the control of sets of cosmetic products.

Cosmetics can become unusable if the rules for storing them are violated. Following certain rules will help protect cosmetics from spoilage and will not shorten the shelf life of cosmetics.

For example, Dead Sea cosmetics, due to their natural properties, require special care in storage.

Allergy to gel polish. The composition of gel polish and what does it contain?

Allergy to gel polish is a problem that nail service professionals often encounter. What components in gel polish can cause allergies? We tell nail technicians about the chemistry of materials and allergenic components in gel polish.

What does gel polish contain?

What components in gel polish can cause an allergic reaction?

Are there hypoallergenic gel polishes?

What does gel polish contain?

Monomers and oligomers

Substances whose molecules are capable of polymerizing with each other to form a polymer. Such a polymer is a gel polish coating. On the label you can see the names of monomers such as Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate and Hydroxypropyl Acrylate.

Photopolymerization initiators

For example, a substance such as Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone is a photoinitiator, that is, it actively absorbs ultraviolet rays and starts the polymerization reaction. Different manufacturers include different percentages of this substance in their products, so the higher the content, the faster the gel polish polymerizes.

Solvents

Reaction solvents for oligomers that enable the polymerization process. Such solvents include Isobornyl Methacrylate.

Pigments

Can be natural or synthetic. In colored gel polishes, pigments are most often designated like this: CI 15850, which means that a synthetic red dye “Ruby lithol BK” was used.

Fragrance

Just like pigment, it can be natural or synthetic. It can be found in its composition as “ethyl acetate”, then the gel polish acquires a fruity aroma

What components in gel polish can cause an allergic reaction?

An allergic reaction can occur to any component in gel polish, but one of the most common causes of allergies is the sticky layer. The dispersion layer is the remnant of non-polymerized gel polish and contact with it should be minimized or eliminated. In addition, sometimes substances are used in production that increase the risk of an allergic reaction.

Formaldehyde

A preservative, which is used in the production of cosmetics to preserve its shelf life, actively fights bacteria and moldy fungi. The substance is allowed to be used in nail products, but do not allow contact with the skin.

Synonyms on the label can be: formalin, formic aldehyde, merthaldehyde, methanal, methyl aldehyde, oxomethane, oxymethylene, aldehyd mravenci (czech), aldehyde formique (French), aldeide, formica (italian), bfv.

Toluene

It is used as a solvent in varnishes and is a toxic component. In production, toluene is used in very low concentrations and in a limited range of products.

Synonyms on the label can be: benzene, methyl, benzene, methyl-, methyl-benzene, methylbenzene, toluol, antisal 1a, benzene, methyl-, cp 25, methacide, methane, phenyl-, methylbenzene.

Are there hypoallergenic gel polishes?

Manufacturers often indicate formulas 3-free, 5-free, 7-free and 9-free on hypoallergenic products. They involve avoiding toxic preservatives, plasticizers, petroleum products and various allergens.

3-Free

Gel polishes with this mark do not contain three toxic ingredients: formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate (DBP).

5-Free

In addition to the three components listed above, these gel polishes also contain no formaldehyde resins or camphor in the formula. Resin and camphor are strong allergens. 5-Free gel polishes include the Uno Lux base coat and the RIO Profi hypoallergenic rubber base.

7-Free

Such gel polishes do not contain substances harmful to health: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resins, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, camphor, xylene and ethyltosilamide. Gel polishes with this formula include the CND brand.

9-Free

Gel polishes are free of dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, parabens, camphor, methylisothiazolinone, hexylcinnamaldehyde and fragrance. A rubber base coat with a 9-free formula was released by the ONIQ brand in volumes of 10 and 30 ml.

Anyone can develop an allergy to gel polish, even to hypoallergenic products, so you should carefully follow the procedure for gel polish and nail extensions. Read in this article what to do at the first signs of an allergy and how to recognize it.

What is the shelf life of gel polishes, storage rules and features

Questions related to the shelf life of materials, rules and storage conditions are relevant for every master, regardless of experience, number of clients and place of work.

Following simple rules allows you to avoid unnecessary expenses and prevent the negative health consequences that can be associated with the use of expired material. Our article will tell you how much gel polishes can be used and how best to organize their storage.

Most of the materials on display have already been opened. Therefore, it is simply pointless to accept any amendments. You should focus on the total shelf life. On average, the period of use of most modern materials is 3 years.

For example, this is the expiration date for Bluesky gel polish indicated on its packaging. Most materials have the same shelf life.

Note that more expensive materials have the same indicators: for example, the same number is indicated on the packaging of premium class varnish “Luxio”. What do we see on bottles from other popular brands?

The shelf life of Kapus gel polish is stated as three years; “Kodi”, “Haruyama”, “Kosmolak” recommend using their products for the same amount of time; the same figure can be found on bottles of TNL, CND, IBD and many other brands. Some series from MyNail have a shorter period - 2 years after the release date. Gelish polish is recommended to be stored for 18 months after first opening.

Exceptions are very rare, but you must read what the manufacturer indicated. In addition to the recommended period, the release date must be printed on the packaging.

If you cannot find this information, you should not purchase.

General shelf life

The shelf life of gel polish is usually 3 years. During this time, it is extremely important to observe storage conditions: hermetically sealed packaging, dark place, room temperature. Stores are required to comply with the conditions, but cannot always keep track of all customers.

It happens that during the search, someone opened the bottle and did not close it tightly, took it from the shelf, then changed his mind and put it near the heating. Store employees don't always notice right away.
