How to take mucaltin cough tablets instructions

Mucaltin is a drug based on herbal components that is widely used to treat acute tracheitis and chronic respiratory diseases. It enhances the vibrations of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, the peristalsis of the bronchioles, and stimulates the secretion of liquid secretion by the bronchial glands.

This helps to liquefy mucus and evacuate it from the respiratory tract. Thanks to their enveloping properties, the active components have a beneficial effect on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract and promote their regeneration.

Can serve as an aid in the treatment of viruses, coronaviruses and other pathological processes.

Treatment with Mucaltin

Pharmacological properties and release form

Mucaltin is produced in the form of tablets, syrup or powder. Tablets of heterogeneous gray-brown color with a specific taste and smell. One tablet (0.05 g) contains:

  • marshmallow root extract (0.01 g);
  • excipients (sodium bicarbonate; tartaric acid; calcium stearate).

Tablets are produced in paper packages or plastic containers. The syrup is produced in 200 ml polymer bottles. 100 ml of syrup contains:

  • 0.15 g marshmallow root extract;
  • auxiliary components (methylparaben, sucrose, water).

The gray-brown powder is produced in sachets. One sachet contains:

  • marshmallow herb extract (0.05 g);
  • mint essential oil (0.00577 g);
  • excipients (sodium bicarbonate; citric acid; calcium stearate, lactose, saccharin, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol, flavoring).

Marshmallow extract contains mucilaginous substances, polysaccharides, pectin, asparagine, lecithin, phytosterols, amino acids and minerals.

The drug helps thin sputum, has a bronchodilator effect, and reduces the intensity of cough.

The medicine exhibits anti-inflammatory, softening and enveloping properties. Normalizes the rheological characteristics (fluidity) of sputum, reduces its adhesion (sticking).

The anti-inflammatory effect is associated with the enveloping effect of the active components of the drug. The protective film that forms on the surface of the mucous membranes prevents cell damage and promotes tissue regeneration.

Indications

The drug is used to treat acute and chronic diseases of the respiratory tract:

  • bronchitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • bronchoadenitis;
  • pneumoconiosis;
  • laryngitis;
  • emphysema;
  • tuberculosis;
  • tracheobronchitis;
  • bronchiectasis pathologies;
  • tracheitis.

Mucaltin is used to facilitate the release of thick sputum from the lower respiratory tract during an unproductive wet cough. The drug promotes the movement of sputum into the upper respiratory tract and its removal from the body. The medication is often prescribed for tracheitis.

Features of Mucaltina

Indications for use

Acute and chronic pathologies of the upper respiratory tract, accompanied by the formation of viscous, difficult to separate sputum:

  • obstructive bronchitis;
  • tracheobronchitis;
  • tracheitis;
  • laryngitis;
  • pneumonia;
  • bronchiectasis;
  • bronchial asthma.

The drug can also be prescribed as part of complex therapy for the following conditions:

  • gastritis;
  • gastric ulcer and 12-p. guts

Features of the use of Mucaltin for tracheitis

Tracheitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea), as a rule, develops against the background of hypothermia, acute respiratory diseases, and influenza. In some cases, inflammation is provoked by inhalation of toxic substances - chemical vapors, smoke, pesticides.

There are acute and chronic forms. The acute form is characterized by a rapid course and vivid symptoms. The inflammatory process is accompanied by a dry, unproductive cough, which intensifies at night and in the morning. Patients experience increased body temperature, general weakness, and pain in the chest area. After some time, the cough becomes wet, the symptoms gradually disappear. With proper treatment, recovery occurs within 1-3 weeks.

If the disease is not treated, it can go into a chronic stage, which is characterized by coughing attacks, general weakness, and periodic exacerbations of the inflammatory process. The chronic form can be:

  • atrophic - the tracheal mucosa becomes thinner, which provokes attacks of dry cough in the patient;
  • hypertrophic - thickening of the mucous membrane and copious sputum production are observed.

Mucaltin is prescribed to convert a dry cough into a wet form, stimulate expectoration, and normalize mucus secretion.

Under the influence of the active substances of the drug, the mucus is liquefied and removed from the trachea, which creates unfavorable conditions for the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.

Indications for use of Mucaltin

Mucaltin for cough is prescribed after consulting a doctor due to the need to determine the advisability of its use in each specific case. The drug has a pronounced expectorant effect, which is based mainly on increased secretion of mucous glands in the bronchi with an increase in the lumen of the respiratory tract.

The medication has the following effects on the respiratory system of the body:

  • stimulation of bronchosecretion;
  • relaxation of muscle cells, which is accompanied by a moderate expansion of the airway lumen;
  • reducing the intensity and frequency of coughing attacks due to enveloping the bronchial mucosa. Irritation of nerve fibers is partially blocked, which leads to regression of the clinical picture. The effect is moderate;
  • decrease in sputum viscosity;
  • accelerating the removal of mucus from the lower respiratory tract to the outside.

According to the instructions, Mucaltin is indicated for chronic, acute diseases of the respiratory tract, which are accompanied by viscous and thick sputum (pneumonia, pneumoconiosis, bronchiectasis, obstructive chronic pulmonary disease, laryngitis, pharyngitis, bronchial asthma, pulmonary enphysema, tracheobronchitis and others).

Good reviews about Mucaltin, used for coughs with sputum of unknown origin.

The use of Mucaltin is also effective in conditions where it is difficult for the patient to expectorate sputum.

Mucaltin is contraindicated for children under 3 years old, with severe renal pathologies, thrombophlebitis, thrombosis, diabetes mellitus, congenital fructose intolerance, phenylketonuria, hypersensitivity to the drug, galactose-glucose malabsorption syndrome, and gastrointestinal ulcers.

According to the instructions, Mucaltin should not be used simultaneously with drugs that affect the cough center, in particular those that contain codeine. In this case, sputum discharge may be complicated, and the underlying disease that caused the cough may worsen.

Features of application

In patients with chronic inflammatory processes in the lungs, at the initial stages of Mucoltin therapy, the viscosity of sputum increases, which is associated with the accumulation (accumulation) of organic substances and other products of inflammatory reactions in it. In this regard, it is advisable to use mucolytic drugs (Bromhexine, Solvin, Flavamed) in parallel with Mucaltin.

To enhance the therapeutic effect when treating tracheitis with Mucaltin, it is recommended to take the medicine every four hours during the day.

The medication contains sodium (0.024 g per dose), so it should be used with caution by people on a sodium diet. Patients with intolerance to certain sugars should consult a doctor before using the drug.

Mucaltin during pregnancy: instructions

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of the drug should be under medical supervision.

In the first trimester, Mucaltin is used only if the expected benefit in the treatment of tracheitis outweighs the likely risk to the fetus.

The duration of therapy and dose are determined by the attending physician, which coincides with the general treatment regimen for adults. Pregnant women are prescribed 1 tablet 3-4 times a day, half an hour before meals.

Considering that pregnant women often experience dyspepsia, it is recommended to first crush the tablets and consume them in powder form with boiled water at room temperature.

How to drink mucaltin correctly?

Instructions for using Mucaltin in adults and children over 12 years of age are no different. The product should be taken orally with water. The standard dosage is one or two units of the drug three times a day. To facilitate the absorption of the medication by small patients, the tablets are kneaded, mixed in 40-50 ml of warm water and given to drink.

Mukaltin for children

Mucaltin is prescribed to children from 12 years of age. Taking the medicine earlier in a child may cause undesirable consequences. The reason is hypersecretion of the bronchial glands against the background of insufficient removal of mucus from the respiratory tract.

Fact! Children have different functioning of the respiratory system compared to adult patients. The bronchi are thin and the muscle fibers are not fully developed. Stimulation of mucus production leads to sedimentation of part of the secretion in the respiratory tract without proper drainage. A possible result is the addition of secondary microflora with the development of pneumonia or bronchitis.

Therefore, no matter how severe the cough may bother the baby, Mucaltin should not be prescribed to children under one year of age. Despite the instructions for the drug, doctors sometimes use the herbal drug in children under 12 years of age. The doctor assesses the potential risk or benefit to the child’s health, and then decides on the advisability of Mucaltin in a particular case.

Prevention of tracheitis

To prevent the development of tracheitis, you should adhere to the general rules for the prevention of acute respiratory infections:

  • take walks in the fresh air;
  • avoid hypothermia;
  • avoid places with large crowds of people during epidemics of influenza and acute respiratory infections;
  • to refuse from bad habits;
  • regularly ventilate the premises and humidify the air;
  • take multivitamin complexes, especially in the cold season.

It is recommended to avoid contact with chemicals or allergens that can cause irritation and the development of inflammatory reactions in the trachea.

Doctors advise eliminating foci of infection in the oral cavity - treating caries, tonsillitis, gingivitis. There is no need to ignore chronic diseases or use medications uncontrollably, especially antibiotics.
